What I always do:
- "omnia mea meco porto". During an emergency, you will not have time to get your carry on. Keep all documents, dollars, and cards are securely on my pockets/neck pouch/moneybelt. Get them at the airport or check online options.
- travel with a leather coat. I can dress up or down, handle some rain, and have it handy at the airport.
- wear comfortable shoes, mocs, or get coiled shoelaces for your sneakers. Think: would you like to be wearing flops or high heels if you were at trying to reach the exit door while the plane was floating at the Hudson river?
- carry an inflatable neck pillow for "short" international trips (up to 4-6 hours)
- carry an inflatable cushion and/or my firstclass sleeper for avg/long trips (+6 hours)
- have chewing gum at hand: improves breath and avoid inner ear pressure discomfort.
- Travel with dental floss, toothbrush&paste and my Secret
- join an airline club or get an one - day pass for their lounges. I have been using AA, Continental, NWA/Delta, . Then take a shower as you arrive - or during a layover at a key connecting hub. You will feel soooo energized!
