What to pack?

What to pack?
July is peak season in most part of both hemispheres, December is painful to travel so I try to avoid winter/summer months during my international trips. Most part of the time, you will find that temperature will not be a big problem.
You should be able to pack your stuff in just one suit case. Most people will not stay more than two weeks on the road, and my trips seldom lasted more than three. Do some homework and be selective in your list, and always work in layers.

Arriving at Destination - renting a car, cab or using public transportation?

After an international flight, you will be tired. Even if you get a GPS with local maps, you will get a better deal if you do some research and rent a car away from the airport. So for your first few miles, consider a taxi if you're travelling with a buddy oAdd Imager with your family. But if you are travelling alone, a hotel shuttle can be a way to do some local sightseeing and gaining some knowledge about the area. In Asia, trains - airport express - can be a great way to get to your hotel if you are travelling alone.

I love the airport express in Hong Kong: you will be able to check in at the train station in Hong Kong or Kowloon, getting rid of your luggage and get your boarding pass with enough time to still hop around before catching the airport express... Gotta love it

My carry on - travelling better

What to include in my carry on?

What I always do:
  • "omnia mea meco porto". During an emergency, you will not have time to get your carry on. Keep all documents, dollars, and cards are securely on my pockets/neck pouch/moneybelt. Get them at the airport or check online options.
  • travel with a leather coat. I can dress up or down, handle some rain, and have it handy at the airport.
  • wear comfortable shoes, mocs, or get coiled shoelaces for your sneakers. Think: would you like to be wearing flops or high heels if you were at trying to reach the exit door while the plane was floating at the Hudson river?
  • carry an inflatable neck pillow for "short" international trips (up to 4-6 hours)
  • carry an inflatable cushion and/or my firstclass sleeper for avg/long trips (+6 hours)
  • have chewing gum at hand: improves breath and avoid inner ear pressure discomfort.
  • Travel with dental floss, toothbrush&paste and my Secret
  • join an airline club or get an one - day pass for their lounges. I have been using AA, Continental, NWA/Delta, . Then take a shower as you arrive - or during a layover at a key connecting hub. You will feel soooo energized!
